Snapchat is a social media platform which allows the users to click pictures, add effects to them and share it with their friends. It is one of the fastest growing digital media platforms in the world. The company expanded from being just a one-app business to a full-fledged tech firm when they expanded into the hardware business with the Snap Spectacles: glasses that let you take pictures.
Even though Facebook is 11.93 times bigger than Snapchat (Facebook has 1.79 Billion monthly active users vs Snapchat with 150 Million monthly active users), Snapchat and Facebook both have 10 Billion daily video views. This makes Snapchat one of the most attractive image and video platforms for advertisers.
Snapchat is the fastest growing app in India, over 9% of the apps’ total users live here. Snapchat has a unique demographic advantage in India: It is the biggest app with the youngest users. Let us break it down further:
- The average age of active Snapchat users is between 15 to 25 years of age.
These individuals are concentrated in metro cities (Tier 1) and Tier 2 cities.
Talking about their financial status, Snapchat users tend to have a high disposable income.
Thanks to its fast growing pace, the app is growing at a pace of nearly a million users every day! Summing it up, Snapchat provides brands with an innovative platform to reach out to younger users with high disposable income.
Snapchat Geofilters allow the users to show-off their current geographical location. Every Geofilter has a distinct look to it, and features vibrant colors and fonts, and typically demonstrates a local element prominently. We created a community Geofilter for New Delhi – one of the biggest cities in India, and had it approved by Snapchat in our very first effort!
Internationally, Geofilters are being used to promote brands and events. These Branded “On-Demand” Snapchat Geofilters are not available in India as of now. But hang on! With over 9% of their users based in India, it is a significant market for Snapchat, and we expect them to be introduced in 2017. This opens the doors to a whole new kind of geo-targeted marketing to specific audiences, something that brands can use to connect with younger users in 2017.
