REOS is an operating system with a suite of smart apps designed for Android phones developed by Cube26. REOS combines functionalities across apps to give a better experience to users. For example, if you have a meeting outside of your office at 3pm, REOS will alert you before the meeting and give you the option to book a taxi to the destination from the alert itself.
Cube 26 reached out to us in the early stages of REOS’s development to create a logo and identity that could communicate the idea behind the operating system.
We spent our first meetings with the Cube26 team understanding the story behind REOS. The brand was meant to signify a ‘revolution’ and ‘reinvention’ of the Android OS. This was where the prefix ‘re-‘ came from. We began our research by looking at how we could take this prefix forward.
We explored several iterations of the phrase looking into corresponding visualisations for the logo, including reinvention, reboot, and renaissance. We, along with Cube26, felt that the idea of ‘renaissance’ or ‘rebirth’ captured the spirit of REOS most effectively. This was the concept we decided to take forward.
Looking into the term more closely we came across artist Michelangelo Pistoletto’s ‘Third Paradise’ symbol signifying the union of natural intelligence and artificial intelligence. For us, this perfectly reflected REOS’s brand ethos: the unification of humanity and technology
The REOS range of apps launched in August 2016. REOS Lite, Camera and Messenger are available on Google Play and can be downloaded from https://getreos.com/reos-apps/
